颜率见公仲
Yan Shuai Visited Gongzhong
【原文】
颜率见公仲,公仲不见。颜率谓公仲之谒者曰：“公仲必以率为阳 也，故不见率也。公仲好内，率曰好士；[公]仲啬于财，率曰散施；公仲 无行，率曰好义。自今以来，率且正言之而已矣。”公仲之谒者以告公 仲，公仲遽起而见之。
【今译】
颜率去见公仲，公仲不见他。颜率对公仲手下负责接待宾客的人 说广公仲一定以为我这人不实在，所以不愿意见我。公仲喜欢女色，我 说要喜爱士人；公仲吝惜自己的钱财，我说要施舍给别人；公仲没有德 行，我说要热爱道义,从今以后，我只有直言不讳地说出自己的看法而 已。”公仲手下负责接待宾客的人把这话告诉了公仲，公仲立即起来接见颜率。
Yan Shuai wanted to pay a visit to Gongzhong, but Gongzhong refused to see him. Yan Shuai told Gongzhong' s servant in charge of receiving guests, “Gongzhong must regard me as insincere，so he refused to see me in person. Gongzhong is addicted to love affairs with beautiful women， but I will suggest that he attach more importance to scholars. Gongzhong is very mean，but I will suggest that he distribute his wealth to help others. Gongzhong is a person of no virtue at all, but I will suggest that he adhere to the rules of morality and justice. From now on，I will express myself directly to him, ” Gongzhong’s servant in charge of receiving guests informed Gongzhong about this. So Gongzhong immediately went to meet Yan Shuai.
