王曰向也子曰天下无（道)[敌]
The King Said, “You Just Said That It Is Invincible Under the Sun”
【原文】
王曰向也子曰‘天下无（道）[敌]’，今也子曰‘乃且攻燕’者，何 也？”对曰广今谓马多力则有矣, 若曰胜千钧则不然者，何也？夫千钧， 非马之任也。今谓楚强大则有矣，若夫越赵、魏而斗兵于燕，则岂楚之 任也哉？且非楚之任而楚为之，是弊楚也。强楚，弊楚，其于王孰便也?”
【今译】
魏王说你刚才说它‘天下无敌’，现在又说‘将要进攻燕国’，怎么 回事？”虞卿回答说如果说马力气大，那是对的，假如说马能负栽千钧 重量就不对了，为什么呢？千钧不是马所能负栽的重担。如果说楚国强大，是对的，假如（说楚国能）派军队穿过赵国和魏国跟燕国作战，这 怎么是楚国所能胜任的呢？楚国做自己不能承受的事情，就会把自己弄得疲弊不堪。楚国疲弊就会显示出魏国的强大，对大王不是更有利吗?”
The king of Wei said, “You just said that it is invincible under the sun. Now you are saying that it is about to attack the state of Yan, Why?” Yu Qing replied, “Now if you say that a horse is very strong, that’s right. However，if you declare that a horse can carry one thousand jun of weight on its back，that’s wrong. Why? One thousand jun is beyond the limitations of a horse. Now if you say the state of Chu is big and powerful, that’s right. However，if Chu plans to dispatch its troops to traverse Zhao and Wei to attack Yan, isn’t this beyond Chu’s limitations? Nonetheless, Chu is still about to do that. Therefore，it will become exhausted. If this is the case，your state will be strengthened. Isn't this advantageous to Your Majesty?
