公仲为韩魏易地
Gongzhong Wanted to Exchange Some of Han’s Land with Wei
【原文】
公仲为韩、魏易地，公叔争之而不听，且亡。史惕谓公叔曰：“公亡, 则易必可成矣^公无辞以（后）[复]反，且示天下轻公，公不若顺之。 夫韩地易于上，则害于赵；魏地易于下，则害于楚^公不如告楚、赵。 楚、赵恶之。赵闻之，起兵临羊肠;楚闻之，发兵临方城，而易必败矣。”
【今译】
公仲主持让韩国和魏国交换土地，公叔劝止他，但却没有被听从, 公叔准备逃亡。史惕对公叔说：“您逃亡了，交换土地的事就一定成了； 您没有什么借口来返回韩国，就会向天下人显示出您的权位低微。您 不如顺从他。韩国拿北部地区来交换，就会对赵国不利；魏国用南部的 土地交换，就会对楚国不利,您不如把这个情况告诉楚国和赵国。楚 国和赵国会讨厌这么做。赵国听说了这件事，会派兵逼近羊肠塞；楚国 听说了这件事，会派兵逼近方城。这样一来，交换土地的事情一定会失 敗了。”
Gongzhong wanted to exchange some land of the state of Han with the state of Wei, Gongshu disagreed with him，but Guanzhong would not take his advice. As a result，Gongshu planned to leave for another state. Shi Ti had a talk with Gongshu and said，“If you flee to another state，the exchange will succeed. Moreover, if you come back to our state without sound reason，people all over the world will disregard you. You’d better agree with Guanzhong on this matter. If the state of Han gives up the northern area， it is disadvantageous to the state of Zhao- If the state of Wei gives up its southern area，it is disadvantageous to the state of Chu. You’d better inform the state of Zhao and the state of Chu about this. Chu and Zhao will hate this arrangement. When the king of Zhao hears this, he will dispatch his troops to approach the Fortification of Yangchang. When the king of Chu hears this- he will dispatch his troops to approach the city of Fangcheng. As a result，the exchange will result in failure. ”
