Someone Consulted with Gongshu Regarding His Wish to Seize Wusui from Qin
【原文】
谓公叔曰公欲得武遂于秦，而不患楚之能(扬）[伤]河外也,公不如令人恐楚王，而令人为公求武遂于秦。谓楚王曰：‘发重使为韩求 武遂于秦。秦王听，是令得行于万乘之主也。韩得武遂以（恨）[限]秦，毋秦患而得楚。韩，楚之县而已。秦不听，是秦、韩之怨深而交楚也。’”
【今译】
有人对公叔说广您想从秦国那里得到武遂，但是却不担心楚国能 够伤害河外。您不如派人恐吓楚王，并且派人到秦国为您索求武遂。 对楚王说：‘派出重要的使臣为韩国向秦国索取武遂。如果秦王听从， 就能让一个拥有一万辆战车的国家的君主执行您的命令。韩国得到武遂来限制秦国，没有秦国带来的灾祸而且对楚国心存感激。韩国犹如 楚国的一个县而已。如果秦王不听，秦国和韩国之间的怨恨就会很深 而且会争相结交楚国。’”
Someone consulted with Gongshu, “You want to seize the region of Wusui from the state of Qin, but do not worry that the state of Chu is able to cause damage to the area of Hewai. You’d better send someone to threaten the king of the state of Chu, and at the same time send another person to the state of Qin to ask for the region of Wusui, Simply tell the king of Chu, Please send important emissaries to the state of Qin to ask that the region of Wusui be ceded to the state of Han. If the king of Qin agrees to do so，it means that you can issue orders to the sovereign of a state with ten thousand chariots. After obtaining the region of Wusui, Han can use it to control the state of Qin. Therefore, Han will be free from Qin’s aggression and also be grateful to Chu. The state of Han will be regarded as nothing but a county of the state of Chu. If the king of Qin doesn’t listen to you，the state of Han and the state of Qin will become very resentful towards each other and therefore, they will vie with each other in winning over the state of Chu. ”
