韩公叔与几瑟争国郑强为楚王使于韩
Gongshu of Han Vied with Ji Se for the State and Zheng Qiang Went to Han on a Diplomatic Mission on Behalf of Chu’s King
【原文】
韩公叔与几瑟争国。郑强为楚王使于韩，矫以新城、阳人（合）[予] 世子，以与公叔争国。楚怒，将罪之，郑强曰臣之矫与之，以为国也。曰世子得新城、阳人以与公叔争国，而得全，魏必急韩氏.韩氏急，必 县命于楚，又何新城、阳人敢索？若战而不胜，走而不死，今且以至，又 安敢言地？”楚王曰：“善。”乃弗罪。
【今译】
韩公叔帮助公子咎跟几瑟竞争太于之位。郑强替楚王出使韩国， 假传楚王的命令，把新城、阳人送给几瑟，帮他跟公叔争夺太子之位。 楚王很生气,将要治他的罪。郑强说：“我之所以假托大王的命令把这 两个地方送给几瑟，是为了我们国家。听我说，几瑟得到了新城、阳人, 来跟公叔争夺太子之位，如果能够成功，魏国一定会立即进攻韩国；韩 国情势危急了，一定会投靠楚国，又怎么敢索要新城、阳人呢？如果交 战而不能取胜，几瑟侥幸没有被杀死，恐怕马上就逃到这里来了，又怎么敢索要土地？”楚王说：“说得好。”就没有治郑强的罪
Gongshu of the state of Han supported Childe Jiu to vie with Ji Se in being proclaimed crown prince. Zheng Qiang went to Han on a diplomatic mission on behalf of the king of the state of Chu and presented Xincheng and Yangren to Ji Se in the name of his king to help Ji Se in his fight for the authority of the state. Chu’s king was angry and wanted to punish him for it‘ Zheng Qiang said, “I gave him the land in the name of Your Majesty on behalf of our state. Please let me explain. If Ji Se succeeds in the fight with Gongshu for authority over the state after obtaining Xincheng and Yangren, Wei will send troops to attack Han immediately. Thus Han will be in danger and therefore resort to us for help. If this is the case，how dare Ji Se ask for Xincheng and Yangren from us? If he is defeated and survives by a fluke, he will soon flee to our state to take shelter. If this is the case， how dare he mention the land?” Chu’s king said, “That’s a good idea.” Then he gave up the plan to punish Zheng Qiang.
