Gongshu Was About to Kill Ji Se
【原文】
公叔且杀几瑟也，宋赫为谓公叔曰：“几瑟之能为乱也，内得父兄而外得秦、楚也。今公杀之，太子无患，必轻公。韩大夫知王之老而太子杀。伯婴恐，必保于公。韩大夫不能必其不入也，必不敢辅伯婴以为 乱。秦、楚挟几瑟以塞伯婴，伯婴外无秦、楚之权，内无父兄之众，必不 能为乱矣。此便于公。”
【今译】
公叔即将杀死几瑟，宋赫为几瑟对公叔说几瑟之所以能制造祸 患，是因为在国内有父兄支持而且在外面有秦国和楚国帮助的缘故。现在如果您杀了他，太子没有什么忧患了，就一定会轻视您。韩国的大 臣们知道韩王年纪太大了而太子的继承权确定下来了，一定会暗中侍 奉太子。秦国和楚国如果跟韩国关系破裂了，一定会暗地里支持伯婴。 伯婴也是另一个几瑟啊。您不如别把他杀了。伯婴害怕了，一定会依 附您，韩国的大臣们不能确保几瑟不能回国，一定不敢辅佐伯婴来挑 起事端。秦国和楚国协助几瑟遇制伯婴，伯婴在外没有秦国和楚国的 势力做支撑，在国内没有父兄等人的支持，一定不能制造祸患的。这样 对您有利。”
Gongshu was about to kill Ji Se. On Ji Se，s behalf, Song He had a talk with Gongshu and said，“The reason that Ji Se can cause problems to your state lies in the fact that he is supported by some close relatives within the state as well as the state of Qin and the state of Chu outside our state. If you kill him, the crown prince will be free from trouble. Therefore, he will definitely no longer attach importance to you. If the high-ranking court officials of the state of Han realize that the king himself is old and the crown prince will certainly take over the regime sooner or later, they will secretly work for him. If the state of Qin and the state of Chu cut their ties with the state of Han, they both will secretly support Bo Ying. Bo Ying is nothing but another Ji Se, You’d better not kill him. Thus Bo Ying will be scared and therefore will turn to you. The high-ranking court officials of the state of Han cannot ensure that they can prevent Ji Se from returning to Han, so they will definitely not dare assist Bo Ying to stir up a rebellion. By backing Ji Se, the state of Qin and the state of Chu can take control of Bo Ying, Without the outside support of Qin and Chu or the help of the close relatives inside the state, Bo Ying is incapable of causing any threat to our state. And this is in your best interests.
