韩珉相齐
Han Min Served as Prime Minister of Qi
【原文】
韩珉相齐，令吏逐公畴竖，大怒于周之留成阳君也。谓韩珉曰公以二人者为贤人也，所人之国因用之乎？则不如其处小国。何也？成 阳君为秦去韩，公畴竖，楚王善之。今公因逐之，二人者必人秦、楚，必 为公患，且明公之不善于天下。天下之不善公者与欲有求于齐者，且收 之，以临齐而市公。”
【今译】
韩珉做了齐国的相国，命令官吏驱逐了公畴竖，因为周国收留了成阳君而非常气恼。有人对韩珉说您把这两个人当作贤人，他们所到 的国家会任用他们吗？那样的话，就不如让他们呆在小的国家。为什 么呢？成阳君因为秦国而离开了韩国；公畴竖，楚王跟他关系很好。如 果您趁机驱逐了他们，这两个人就一定会到秦国和楚国去，一定会成为 您的忧患，而且还会彰明您跟天下各国不友善,天下跟您关系不好的 人以及有求于齐国的人将会收留他们，用他们来遥迫齐国把您交出去.”
When Han Min was serving as prime minister of the state of Qi, he issued an order to drive Gongchou Shu out of the state of Zhou, and was angry with the state of Zhou for its allowing Lord Chengyang to stay. Someone had a talk with Han Min and said, “You consider these two persons worthy. Don’t you think the states they enter will take the chance to employ them? Therefore, it would be better if they stay in small states- Why? Lord Chengyang left the state of Han because of the state of Qin and Gongchou Shu is very close to the king of the state of Chu, Now if you drive them out of the state of Zhou, they will definitely go to the state of Qin and the state of Chu respectively. If this is the case, they will certainly cause problems for you. They will also make it clear that you are not friendly with other states of the world. Thus those who are against you and those wanting to take advantage of the state of Qi, will buy them off to coerce the state of Qi into dismissing you from office. ”
