秦招楚而伐齐
Qin Allied with Chu to Attack Qi
【原文】
秦招楚而伐齐，冷向谓陈轸曰广秦王必外向：‘楚之齐者，知西不合 于秦，必且务以楚合于齐。齐、楚合，燕、赵不敢不听。齐以四国敌秦， 是齐不穷也。’向曰：‘秦王诚必欲伐齐乎？不如先收于楚之齐者。楚之 齐者（先)[无]务以楚合于齐，则楚必即秦矣。以强秦而有（晋）楚，则 燕、赵不敢不听，是齐孤矣。’向请为公说秦王
【今译】
秦国动负楚国攻打齐国，冷向对陈轸说广秦王一定会对我说：‘楚 国倾向于跟齐国亲善的人知道不能向西跟秦国联合，一定会致力于让 楚国跟齐国联合。齐国和楚国联合起来了，燕国和赵国就不敢不听从。 齐囯凭借这四个国家的力量来对抗秦国，齐国就不会’困厄。，我说：‘秦 王果真一定要攻打齐国吗？不如先收买楚国国内倾向于跟齐国亲善的 人，楚国国内倾向于跟齐国亲善的人不致力于让楚国跟齐国联合了，楚 国就一定会投靠秦国了。凭着秦国的强大，再加上楚国的支持，燕国和 赵国就不敢不听从，这样一来，齐国就孤立了 ^’请让我为您游说秦王。”
The state of Qin tried to ally with the state of Chu to attack the state of Qi, Ling Xiang had a talk with Chen Zhen and said，“The king of the state of Qin will definitely tell me， In the state of Chu, when those inclined to ally with the state of Qi realize that Chu will not unite with the state of Qin in the west，they will definitely be committed to arrange for Chu to make an alliance with the state of Qi. Thus the state of Qi can confront the state of Qin with the allied forces of these four states, so it won’t be defeated. ’ Then I will say，‘Do you really want to attack the state of Qi? If you do，you’d better buy off those in favour of building up an alliance with the state of Qi in the state of Chu. If these peope stop leading the state of Chu to build an alliance with the state of Qi, Chu will definitely submit to your state. Due to the strength of the powerful Qin and the might of the state of Chu，the states of Yan and Zhao will definitely not dare act against you. Thus the state of Qi will become isolated. y Please let me consult with the king of the state of Qin for you. ”
