Zhang Deng Had a Talk with Fei Xie
【原文】
张登请费绁曰广请令公子年谓韩王曰：‘费绁，西周仇之，东周宝之。此其家万金，王何不召之以为三川之守？是绁以三川与西周戒也， 必尽其家以事王,西周恶之，必效先王之器以止王。’韩王必为之。西周闻之，必解子之罪，以止子之事
【今译】
张登对费绁说广请让公子年对韩王说：‘费绁这个人，西周仇视他， 东周器重他。他家有一万镒黄金，大王为什么不召他来，让他做三川地 区的太守？这样一来，费绁就可以凭借着三川加强对西周的戒备，一定 会倾尽家里所有的钱财来侍奉大王。西周讨厌他这么做，一定会进献 上先王的宝器来阻止您。’韩王一定会这么做的。西周听说了，一定会免掉您的罪行，来阻止您做这件事。”
Zhang Deng had a talk with Fei Xie and said，“Please ask Childe Nian to take a message to the king of the state of Han as follows： “Fei Xie is hated by the state of West Zhou and cherished by the state of East Zhou. His private savings are worth ten thousand yi of gold. Why not employ him and designate him to be chief officer in charge of the area of Sanchuan? Thus based in Sanchuan, Fei Xie will spend all his private savings to confront the state of West Zhou for you. West Zhou will hate this, so it will give you precious treasures handed down from its deceased sovereigns to persuade you to stop Fei Xie from doing so. The king of the state of Han will definitely take this advice. When the sovereign of the West Zhou hears of this，he will certainly absolve you to prevent you from doing so. ”
