Chen Cui Arranged for Qi and Yan to Build an Alliance with Each Other
【原文】
陈翠合齐、燕，将令燕王之弟为质于齐，燕王许诺。太后闻之，大 怒，曰,陈公不能为人之国，亦则已矣！焉有离人子母者？老妇欲得志“焉！”
【今译】
陈翠主持燕国和齐国的结盟，将要让燕王的弟弟到齐国去做人质， 燕王同意了。太后听说了这件事，非常生气，说：“陈先生不能为别人的 国家办事，那就拉倒吧。怎能让人家母子分离呢？我想辱骂他，让自己心里痛快下。’
Chen Cui arranged for the state of Qi and the state of Yan to build an alliance with each other, and therefore planned to send the younger brother of the king of Yan to Qi as a hostage. When the queen mother heard this, she became very angry and said, “If Mr Chen cannot do anything useful for our state, he can just resign. How can he keep a son away from his mother? I want to scold him to satisfy my own feelings, ”
