The Crown Prince of Wei Personally Led Troops to Attack Qi and Marched Through the Area of Waihuang of Song
【原文】
魏太子自将，过宋外黄。外黄徐子曰臣有百战百胜之术，太子能 听臣乎？”太子曰思闻之。” 客曰固愿效之。今太子自将攻齐，大胜并莒，则富不过有魏，而贵不益为王。若战不胜，则万世无魏。此臣之百战百胜之术也！”太子 臼^诺。请必从公之言而还,客曰,太子虽欲还，不得矣！彼利太子 之战攻，而欲满其意者众，太子虽欲还，恐不得矣！” 太子上车请还，其御曰将出而还，与北同，不如遂行。”遂行，与齐 人战而死，卒不得魏.
【今译】
魏国太子亲自率领军队，路过宋国的外黄。外黄的徐先生说广我 有一套百战百胜的策略，太子能听听吗？”太子说很想听听。”徐先生 说我本来就愿意献上这个策略。现在太子亲自率领军队攻打齐国，即使大获全胜并且兼并莒国，您的财富也不过是拥有魏国，权势也不过是继承王位。如果不能取胜，就将永远不能拥有魏国。这就是我的百 战百胜的策略啊太子说好的。请让我一定听从您的话而退兵。”徐 先生说即使太子想回去，也是回不去的。那些想从太子的战功中掘 取利益从而满足自己的愿望的人很多，太子即使想回去，恐怕也不能回 去啊。”太子登上战车要返回魏国，他的车夫说将军已经出兵了却又 返回国家，跟战敗逃跑是一样的，不如继续前进吧。”于是就继续前行， 在跟齐国军队的作战中丧生，最终也没有得到魏国。
The crown prince of the state of Wei personally led officers and men to attack the state of Qi and on their way there, they marched through the area of Waihuang of the state of Song. Mr Xu living in Waihuang told the crown prince，“I know a strategy which will essure that you win in every battle. Do you want to hear it?” The crown prince said， “Yes，I want. w Mr Xu said，“Well, I was intending to explain it to you. Now you are leading the officers and men in person to attack the state of Qi. Although you might gain a great victory and annex the state of Ju, your wealth will be limited to possessing the state of Wei and your power will be no more than becoming the sovereign of that state. On the other hand, if you are defeated，you will lose the throne for ever. This is my strategy for winning victory in every battle. ” The crown prince said，“I see. Then I will take your advice to withdraw my troops and return to Wei. ” Mr Xu said, “Even though you want to go back to Wei, you are not able to. There are many people waiting to take advantage of your victory to fulfil their selfish desires. Even though you want to go back, I am afraid that you cannot." The crown prince mounted his chariot and gave orders to return. But his driver said, “If a general leads our troops to return to our state without launching an attack, it will be regarded as a debacle. We’d better march forward, ” They then advanced. The crown prince fought to the death on the battlefield and therefore missed being enthroned as sovereign of Wei,
