In King Kang’s time,a sparrow gave birth to a willet at a corner of the protective wall of the capital of the state of Song, The king asked the chief historian to foretell the meaning of it with the help of augury. The chief historian said, “A small bird has given birth to a huge bird. You will definitely establish a most powerful state and become Lord-protector. ” King Kang was very glad to hear that. So he destroyed the state of Teng, attacked Xue and annexed the land north of the Huaishui River, He then became more confident and wanted to become Lord-protector immediately. As a result,he shot the god of Heaven and whipped the god of the Earth, He also cut the symbols representing the earth deity and grain deity and set them on fire. He declared, “My power can surpass that of all the deities and ghosts in the world, ” He scolded those old court officials who dared to remontrate with him,and had a hat made without brim and wore it to exhibit his valor. He sliced off the backs of the humpbacked and cut off the feet of those who crossed the river early in the morning. People all over the state were terrified. The troops of Qi were dispatched to attack Song when they heard of all this. The people of Song fled aimlessly, and there were no soldiers to defend the capital. King Kang escaped to Marquis Ni,s home, but he was found by his enemies and therefore lost his life. Committing evil conduct after witnessing an auspicious omen will lead to trouble.
