Wei woke up in a bad mood-“something is missing from my life,” he thought. “Every day it’s the monotony of the same old thing-go to work, make money, pay the mortgage… it seems that the bills are mounting every month.” Wei was only working for the minimum wage, and although he had had moderate success in his career, he knew there must be something more to life. “I can sit around here and moan about my troubles, or I can do something to modify my life,” he said out loud to himself. His spoken words seemed to mobilize something inside of him, and he began to think very seriously about the possibility that he could migrate to another country. Up to that very minute, he had never thought about leaving his motherland. However, he realized that the entire world was becoming increasingly mobile, and the opportunity to mingle with people from a different culture suddenly sounded very appealing to Wei. “This is not just a minor consideration,” he thought. “Maybe I can become a model for my friends so that they can see that migrating to another country is not impossible.”

That very morning he began to mobilize his plan by researching every minute detail about other countries with opportunities. He monitored the latest news to see what was happening around the world. He told his friends about his plan, and at first they thought that he was trying to mislead them and that he was up to mischief again (Wei had always had a good sense of humor). When they realized that he was serious, they thought that he was having a momentary lapse of reason. As he continued with his plans to migrate, they began to mock him. “Wei thinks he can just leave here and move to another country,” they said. Wei used their mocking words to motivate himself, and he put his plan into motion by applying for a visa to go to his new country. “Our country does not have a monopoly on good living,” he told his friends. “My motive for leaving is not just to escape my mortgage or some other minor reason. I want a better life for myself.” Within two weeks his visa application was granted, and Wei boarded the airplane to leave his home of America for his new home in China, a country full of opportunity and new businesses where he knew he could start a new career on the road to a better life.
