i once read a poor translation describing a piece of art. the english and chinese versions were side by side, so it was easy to find the original meaning if i saw some chinglish.one sentence caught my attention because it seemed totally out of place:"american chinese are not enough" . when i looked over at the chinese version i saw what they really wanted to say: "美中不足" . i laughed so hard.a better translation would have been“perfect except for_”
一次我看到了一份形容一件艺术品的很糟糕的翻译。英文原文和中文翻译并排放在一起，所以当看到一些中式英语时能很容易地就找到它的原意。一个完全不靠谱的句子吸引了我的注意力：“american chinese are not enough,（美国没有足够的华人）”我看到中文版本的时候才知道他们是想说：“美中不足”。真是笑死人了！ “美中不足”比较好的翻译应该是：“perfect except for……”

be careful when using the word "perfect" in english. in chinese we can modify "perfect" by saying "very perfect", for example. but in english, "perfect"is absolute and therefore can not be modified.（中文的“完美”一词是可修饰的，但在英文中，“perfect”是绝对的，不能再被修饰。）
