名人教英文：探月计划
嫦娥二号绕月探测卫星成功进入轨道，中国探月工程又迈进了一步。嫦娥二号的英文名称（汉语拼音）是「chang'e-2」。有关报道说：china moved closer to its goal of landing on the moon as its second unmanned lunar probe, chang'e-2, blasted off seconds before 7:00pm on friday (1 october) from the southwestern city of xichang (西昌).
报道又说：the circumlunar satellite separated from the rocket at 7:26pm to enter the earth-moon transfer orbit. in less than five days, it will enter a 100-kilometer lunar orbit. the chang'e-2 mission is considered a starting point of the second stage of china's lunar exploration programme that focuses on landing on the moon.
这里多次出现的形容词lunar，意思是「与月球有关的」：绕月轨道是lunar orbit，探月计划是lunar exploration programme，探月卫星可叫lunar probe，亦可叫lunar satellite或circumlunar satellite。在lunar前面加上circum-，是「围绕月球」的意思。probe作为动词，是侦测、探测；作为名词，指一项侦测的行动，或者一件探测仪器，
如space probe是太空探测飞船，lunar probe就是探测月球的飞船或卫星；因为是不载人的，所以叫unmanned lunar probe。
在嫦娥二号升空前几天（9月25日），《纽约时报》专栏作家thomas friedman发表了一篇题为china's moon shots的文章，说的却不是中国的探月计划。
文章开头说：china is doing moon shots. yes, that's plural. when i say "moon shots" i mean big, multibillion-dollar, 25-year-horizon, game-changing investments.
本来moon shot或moonshot就是指探月计划；由于探月计划牵涉庞大、长远、跨时代的投资，所以friedman就把这名称借用来泛指庞大而长远的投资项目。他在文章里指出，中国目前正在进行的moon shots，最少有4项：建造超现代化的机场网络、建造高速铁路网络、发展干细胞及遗传工程工业，以及研发电动汽车。
然后，他讽刺地对美国人说：not to worry. america today also has its own multibillion-dollar, 25-year-horizon, game-changing moon shot: fixing afghanistan.
friedman是批评，当中国正投资庞大资源去发展科技和经济的时候，美国却把庞大的资源花在处理阿富汗。
