名人教英文：漫谈押韵（二）
上回谈到，使用同韵字词，有助加强语气。流行文化和时事中都有押韵字的踪影。
流行文化方面，80年代英国就有一队叫tears for fears的摇滚乐队。唱片骑师介绍旧曲，有时会用到a blast from the past一语，意谓久未重现而能唤起回忆的事物，如：hearing that song from the 60s was a blast from the past.
美国俚语chick flick是指那些以年轻女性观众为主要对象的电影— chick和 flick在美国俚语分别指女子和电影。
时事中，blame game一词不时出现，意即推诿卸责。早前，立法会一度否决政府的临时拨款议案，引起双方互相指摘：the government and legislators played a blame game after the provisional funding was blocked. 在美国，联邦政府的预算案也险些不获通过，当时民主党和共和党都说错在对方：both democrats and republicans played a blame game over the budget stalemate.
name and shame即开名责难，令犯错者感到羞辱，藉以达到阻吓作用。例如：earlier this year, the consumer council named and shamed the eighteen pharmacies convicted of selling fake drugs.
lean and mean即架构精简、效率高。after the financial crisis, many companies tried to get lean and mean. 环保是世界趋势，现在企业不但讲求效率，而且要致力保护环境：nowadays, companies have to be "lean and green" as well as "lean and mean".
3月《经济学人》有一篇文章，题为the euro-debt crisis: muddle, fuddle, toil and trouble。muddle解作胡涂，fuddle解作混乱，两个词语生动地描绘出欧洲国家领袖处理欧债危机时手足无措之状。
每天听到这么多新闻，不禁想到社会比从前复杂，但也比从前热闹。we live in a world filled with motion and commotion. motion指事物的运动，commotion则指喧闹和骚动，这对同韵词正好形容这个纷纷攘攘的世界。
