名人教英文：绳之于法
美国总统奥巴马善于辞令，举世公认。盖达首脑拉登被美军击毙的消息，由奥巴马亲自向全世界宣布。他的电视讲话长近1400字，其中大部分是rhetoric，即旨在打动人心而甚少实质内容的言语（其中并无交代袭击和射杀的细节）。
奥巴马这篇讲话里，justice一字先后出现了5次。其中一次出现在整篇讲话中最短也是最有力的一句：justice has been done.（正义已得到伸张。）有的传媒在报道奥巴马这番讲话时，采用了这一句作为标题。这是justice的一个常见用法。有一句经常被引述的话：justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done.这是说司法不但要公正，还要让人看到它的公正。
奥巴马讲话中有两句，把justice和动词bring一起用。一句是："we were also united in our resolve to protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice." 这里说的those who committed this vicious attack（凶残的袭击）指发动9‧11袭击的人，即拉登领导的恐怖组织；bring ... to justice，就是把他们绳之于法。另一句："and finally, last week, i determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get osama bin laden and bring him to justice." 奥巴马认为美军已掌握充分情报，于是批准行动，缉捕拉登，把他绳之于法。
在其余两处，justice是独立使用，解作正义、公义。奥巴马谈到为搜索和捕杀拉登而努力不懈的情报人员和反恐专家："tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who've worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. the american people do not see their work, nor know their names. but tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice." 这一夜，他们终于看到他们追求正义的成果。
结束讲话时，奥巴马说："let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: one nation, under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." 美国之所以能够取得这反恐的胜利，奥巴马说︰「不单因我们的财富和能力，更因我们是信奉神的一个国家，不可分割，人人享有自由和公义。」
