名人教英文：some scumbag「人渣」
连串虐猫杀猫事故，再令大家关注虐待动物（animal abuse）及动物权益（animal rights）。留意这个rights，通常以众数出现，有s，因为是countable noun，可以数的名词；因为讲到权利、权益，有不同项目款式，像﹕
access to clean water is a human right，喝干净的水是一项人权。
历史上呼吁爱护动物的名言，包括解放黑奴的美国林肯总统的一句﹕i am in favour of animal rights as well as human rights.（我支持动物权益，正如我支持人权）。再读一句更重头的﹕that is the way of a whole human being（两者并重，方为完人）。
也即是说，对人好，对动物也一样好。近月其中一宗用气枪（air gun）袭击（attack）小猫的案件，警方拉了一个疑犯（suspect），西报的新闻标题是﹕
man held over attack on kitten with air gun
短短九个字，说出故事大纲。读这类标题文字，是学习简洁英文的快捷方式。这条headline，同时有助熟习怎么用over、on、with三个介词。
man held over attack — 这个over，解for，「因」、「为了」。就像man held for knife attack in street。
over attack on——会有人问，attack后面，可是跟against的吗？一样得。但编辑为省字、悭篇幅，多用on。
on kitten with air gun — 这with要联系上的，自然是前面的attack了。
man held over attack on kitten with air gun，这句「简体」话，写回做常规格式，是police arrested a man over an air-gun attack on a kitten。
在网上，有人叫被捕的疑犯做some scumbag。scum，渣滓；scumbag，「一袋渣滓」，亦即我们口语的「人渣」。这样骂人，肯定crude（粗俗），但不算foul（粗口）。同时可有注意到，some scumbag，some之后不是众数，不是scumbags，不要s。
这款some的用法，不是解「几个」，而是「无以名之」、「唔知阿边个」之意。类似用法，譬如有个派对或好好玩、或闷得离奇、或有人闹事等等，事后就可说﹕that was some party！用来强调已发生的情况。
最后一提，一个suspect未经定罪，仍然清白，疑犯继续「疑」，这是基本的法治精神﹕a man is innocent until proven guilty。
