名人教英文：风骨这回事
clearly, that's rubbish.
completely, that's rubbish.
头一句英文，没有问题；但第二句，就不对头了。为什么不？读书人，要有对文字的敏感。
士农工商，士排第一。读书人讲峥峥风骨，不失节。风骨这回事，英文中恐怕没有绝对的对口单位，净说an upright man，未到位，不够隆重，一般人多会以integrity代之。
he is a man of integrity，他甚有风骨。
he is not a man of integrity，他不是个有诚信的人。
掉过头来，或就可形容此人calculating（计算的）、scheming（计谋的）、slimy（滑不溜手的）。
what a calculating, scheming, slimy toady﹗记得吗，toady就是「擦鞋仔」。
integrity包含诚实、正直、公道，说一个人会一直
1. stick to a moral conviction, or a code of honour (no matter how unpopular it is)︰做人处世基于一副道德信念、一套人格价值观（不管信念如何不受欢迎）。
2. do the right thing even when no one is looking︰即使在不为人知之时，仍然干净企理，做应该做的事。
上面honour一字，既是名誉亦关乎人格，像我们的风骨气节，西方文化一样讲究做人要有a sense of honour。
he has a strong sense of honour. 视乎上文下理，这个亦可解「骨气」，以至同门、桃园一类的「义气」。亦令人联想诗人北岛的名句︰「卑鄙是卑鄙者的通行证，高尚是高尚者的墓志铭」。
另外也有moral fibre、moral strength、moral courage的讲法，直译是道德品格、道德力量、道德勇气。但要注意这里的道德，有更多「道义」的含意。
he lacks the moral fibre to be the leader. 这个 fibre（纤维）比喻品性中的合成料，很有点我们口语说某人「乜料」的味道。
our class teacher is a model of moral strength. 我们的班主任是道德力量的模范。
而问人有没有moral courage做一件事，通常是挑战这个人的原则立场是否坚定，是否a principled person。
