名人教英文：语言伪术、港版《1984》？
网上流传这样一段对答，是语言「伪」术的范例﹕
问﹕「在德国，德国公民能了解德国总理的子女及其财产状况，在中国能吗？」
答﹕「当然能，中国公民也能了解德国总理的子女和财产情况。」
会有人觉得这个答案exceedingly（非常地）clever，incredibly（难以置信地）smart，总之好「醒」。但最后的感觉，却因为答得缺乏诚意，到底不过是cheap smugness、廉价的「得戚」﹔口语形容就是 a smart-ass reply。smart-ass，解洋洋自得，「自以为好醒」。亦可用做名词﹕
that smart-ass thinks he is the know-it-all here. 译做我们的白话，是「嗰条友懒醒，自觉好有料到」。
语言伪术，实实在在不过是耍嘴皮子，just playing with words。
you find him credible? but he is just playing with words!
你认为他信得过？但他不过在玩字！
it is nothing but a game of words. it is only a word game.
只不过是文字游戏罢了。
留意word game的word，成了形容词，就没有 s，维持单数。另一例子︰
this is a group of 12 members this is a 12-member (无s) group.
回说没有诚意地玩字，乔治‧奥韦尔（george orwell）的经典讽刺小说《1984》，香港有哪间学校用作教科书？ 里头的newspeak（新款说话），就是语言伪术的一种，例子有﹕
(1) joycamp（欢乐营）﹕forced-labour camp（劳役营）
(2) blackwhite（黑白）﹕名词，指对党的一份忠心，loyal willingness，党说黑是白，会乖乖跟着说黑是白。更重要的，是代表the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white，不但「相信」黑确就是白，而且从来「知道」黑本就是白。
(3) bellyfeel（肚子感觉）﹕blind, enthusiastic acceptance of a concept. 盲目又热诚地接受一套理念。这个字，或可作本市洗脑教材、升旗感动指引。
因为这本书，奥韦尔的姓 orwell 给改做形容词，orwellian、奥韦尔式的﹔其中一个解释，是official deception，官方瞒骗。
let's hope hong kong won't turn into an orwellian city.
希望香港不会成为奥维尔笔下的城市。
