to take out a loan
benjie: have you heard from the university yet?
sanjay: yes, i've been offered a place on their business studies course. that's the good news.
benjie: well, congratulations. but what's the bad news?
sanjay: the fees are very high and my folks can't afford to help me out with them.
benjie: that's tough. so what are you going to do?
sanjay: well i'll have to take out a student loan and hope i can pay the bank back when i get a job. i'll also have to work while i'm studying.
benjie: seems like you're in for a tough few years.
桑贾伊说大学取录了他﹕that's the good news。 他也可以问﹕what's the not-so-good news?
桑贾伊的坏消息是学费难以负担﹕my folks can't afford to help me out with them。 留意不加s的folk也是复数名词,但意思不同,泛指「人」,例如﹕i got to know many folk while i was there(我在那里的时候,认识了不少人)。
to help (someone) out即「帮助(某人)做某事」,而那「某事」可用with带出,例如﹕(1) father used to help me out with my homework(父亲从前会帮我做家庭作业)。(2) after school, he helped (his parents) out in the shop(放学后,他到店里帮(父母)工作)。
桑贾伊说﹕i'll have to take out a student loan。take out指「(经过审查等)领取」,例如﹕(1) have you taken out any insurance against unemployment?(你有没有买失业保险?)(2) he took out a patent on his invention(他取得他这个发明的专利权)。
穷学生生活当然不好过﹕seems like you're in for a tough few years。to be in for指「将要经历(困难)」,例如﹕it looks as if hong kong is in for a judicial storm(看来,香港将经历一场司法风暴)。
