早前介绍词组结构 at the... of someone 和 to the... of someone，这次谈谈 by... of...。
by dint of 和 by virtue of 都有「凭着」的意思，但前者通常表示凭着努力（due to the efforts of something）。dint 是古字，有 force 或 effort 的意思，现在只用于 by dint of 这个词组之中。例如：amy got into the university of hong kong by dint of hard work.
by virtue of 则可泛指基于某些原因或条件（because of something）。例如：amy became an american citizen by virtue of her birth in the united states.
by means of 解作透过某些方法（by using something）。例如：amy paid for college by means of a student loan.
by courtesy of 是套语。courtesy 一般解作「礼貌」、「礼节」，但 by courtesy of 则用来表示「承蒙……赞助/提供/允许使用」。例如：
‧the pictures were reproduced by courtesy of the hong kong museum of art.（图片获香港艺术馆许可复制。）
‧the costumes for the movie were provided by courtesy of abc tailor shop.（电影戏服由 abc 裁缝店提供。）
by the grace of god 的意思是「蒙上主恩典」。例如：by the grace of god, nobody was injured in the traffic accident.
又譬如说，田北辰当选立法会议员，我们可以解释说：michael tien got elected to the legislative council in 2012 by dint of his sheer hard work during his electoral campaign. 如果他把荣耀归于主，可以说：i was elected to the legislative council by the grace of god。
by the grace of 是宗教用语，我们只能说 by the grace of god /the lord/ the almighty，而不会说by the grace of somebody。by an act of grace from 的意思就不同，an act of grace 是「特赦令」，如：he got released from the prison by an act of grace from the governor.
