jem: you really ought to start banking on the internet instead of using that bank on the high street.
杰姆﹕你实在应该使用网上银行服务，代替去大街那家银行。
adiba: why? i've got no complaints. i'm very happy with it.
阿迪巴﹕为什么？我对那家银行很满意，不觉得有什么不妥。
jem: but it takes time to get there and everything takes so long. internet banking is so quick and convenient. you can do everything from your computer at home.

adiba: i don't like using computers and anyway, i've heard that there's a lot of crime on the internet. people can get into your bank account and steal your money.

jem: not if you follow all the procedures carefully. if you do that, it's pretty secure.

adiba: i'm not convinced. besides, i like to talk face to face with a real human being when i am doing my banking.
阿迪巴﹕我有怀疑。无论如何，使用银行服务，我喜欢面对面跟实实在在的人交谈。
香港岛西区有一条high street，中文叫「高街」，位在半山区，的确「高」得很。不过，英文所谓high street，一般是指城市内商店、银行等汇聚的大街，美式英文叫main street。所以，high street也常用来作商店或其业务的统称，例如﹕(1) high-street prices have gone up a lot over the past several years（过去几年，商店货品价格大升）。(2) we saw no signs of an oncoming economic recession in the high street（看商店业务，毫无经济衰退将临的迹象）。符合大众喜好的商品，也可用high-street形容，例如high-street fashion是「时髦的服饰」。
又「在大街」英文可说on the high street或in the high street。we saw no signs of an oncoming economic recession in the high street这一句，in改为on也可以。同样道理，that bank on the high street也可改为that bank in the high street。
留意i like to talk face to face with a real human being这一句。按face之类单数可数名词（countable noun），一般须冠以a、the、his等等限定符（determiner） 。但是，在一些固定说法之中，重复使用的名词，习惯不用限定符带出，例如﹕we walked hand in hand（我们携手同行）、he grinned from ear to ear（他咧嘴而笑）、we saw eye to eye（我们意见一致）、i read page after page（我一页一页读下去）、day after day we waited（我们等了一天又一天）等等。这样的例子，经常都可以看到。
