名人教英文：爆料？spill it!
叫人爆料，英文系 spill it。但中文说爆，英文怎地用spill（倒泻、溢出）这个字呢？
因为原话是 spill the beans，直译倒泻一箩豆，是指小至把不应说的话说了出去，大至打正旗号告密去。现代用法将之简化，删了豆的一笔，净讲spill。这个spill，解let out（诉说）。
很明显，spill the beans 这个倒泻箩豆的景象，纵使视觉上甚是麻烦狼狈，但跟我们口语说的「倒泻箩蟹」没有关系。而 spill the beans 字面虽然也有「撒豆」之意，亦跟「撒豆成兵」一语完全沾不上边。例句：
‧he's threatening to spill the beans.
他威胁会出去爆料。
‧this is between you and me. please don't spill the beans.
这是我和你之间的事，请勿说出去。
‧so who spilled the beans about his under- the-table deals?
那到底是谁把他的枱底交易泄漏出去？
比较日常的一句：
‧we're planning a surprise party for mary. now don't spill it. 我们计划为玛丽办个惊喜派对，不要事先张扬。
spill the beans在新一代的对答中亦有其他花款，包括 spill the soup，倒泻汤。但要小心，倒泻奶又是另一回事了。
‧don't cry over spilled milk. 别为泼泻了的牛奶哭。比喻局面已无可挽回，顿足也没用。（顺带一提，spilled串spilt都得。）
spill后面常常加out或over。
‧i dropped the mug and the coffee spilled out.
我跌了杯，咖啡都泻了出来。
‧the paint spilt all over the floor.
油漆泻了一地。
还有spillover effect，译做「溢出效应」，亦可解副作用。
‧hong kong has spillover effect on democratisation in mainland china.
香港的民主化，对中国大陆有溢出效应。
人与人之间的感情感染，像见人伤心，自己也不期然流泪，「人喊我喊」，也都是一种 spillover effect。
