go on 用于强调“持续发生”的状态。例如，在第一个例句中，“会议开了一整天”，用 go on 表示，给人的印象是“这个会议好像永远都开不完”。而第三句“外面有人在打架”即为说这句话的同时，外面的人还在厮杀当中。
有人或许会想，上面第六个例句中，go on 可不可以用 go ahead 替换？答案是不行，因为当你用 go on 的时候，带有“急迫性”，表示你急，催促着人家“快一点”；而 go ahead 带有“赞成；批准”的意思，所以在这里要用 go on 才对。
