Chat somebody up ( 说甜言蜜语 )
Chat 的字面意思为「闲谈」，即没有特定目的或非正式的交谈。 Chat 若当作动词时，后面通常也跟着不同的介系词 ( preposition )，而用也各有不同。 Chat with 是指与某人倾谈，如： “ James likes chatting with his classmates during recess. “ ( James 喜欢在小息与同学闲谈。)
我们又用 Chat about 指出闲谈的话题。如： “ We chatted about Andy’s performance in his concert. It was marvelous! “ ( 我们在谈及 Andy 在演唱的表现，真是十分精彩呢！)
至于 Chat up ，这是指用甜言蜜语与异性搭讪聊天。如： “ Tom always chats Mary up to leave a good impression on her. “ ( Tom 时常用甜言蜜语与 Mary 聊天，以留下一个美好的印象给她。)
