On a roll

Steve: And I'm Steve. How are you, Helen? 我是Steve, 你好,Helen?
Helen: Actually, I'm feeling very positive, thanks Steve. 实际上，我感觉非常自信，谢谢你Steve.

Helen: Well, I found out on Friday that I'm getting a promotion at BBC Learning English, then on Saturday I won £1,000 on the lottery. 没什么，我发现我在星期五参加了BBC英语学习，星期六时我就中了1000磅彩票。

Steve: On a roll… On a roll… Helen: Roll? I don't roll… I walk, or sometimes I run if I want some exercise. A football rolls if I kick it across the ground. Roll？我不知道什么是Roll,我步行，或着有时想运动，如果我在球场上踢足球时会的一个足球ROLL.
Steve: Sure, a football rolls, but you can be on a roll. It means you're experiencing lots of success or good luck at the moment. 当然，足球是ROLL，但是你会ON A ROLL,意思是你这时正在经历着成功或着好运。
Helen: I see, the phrase 'on a roll' means you are having lots of good luck in your life. Let's listen to an example. 我看，这个短语“ON A ROLL”的意思就是在你的生活中有很多好运，
我们来听这个例子： Man: I hear your sister's getting married. 男的说：我听说你的妹妹结婚了。 Woman: Yeah, she met this amazing guy while she was working in the theatre in London, and six months later they're engaged! Helen: So that woman is excited because her sister is on a roll – she met an amazing guy who she's now engaged to, and then she was offered the lead part in a play. 因此，这个女的很兴奋因为她的妹妹ON A ROLL-她遇到一个很好的男生与她订婚了。而且他在节目中扮演主角。 Steve: Yes, if you're on a roll it means lots of things are going well for you at the moment.
