Step 1 Presentation
1. Elicit Ss’ answers on how to take notes quickly. List their answers on the Bb.
2. Lead in the useful skill: short forms and symbols.
3. To get short forms and symbols from maths, physics and other subjects.
Step 2 Practice
1. Ss go through Parts A, B freely, try to memorize as many as they can.
2. Ss finish off the two parts on their own. Check up in class.
3. Ss practice reading the letter in any way. Make sure they can give fluent English.
Step 3 Extension activities
1. Do you know the following short forms or symbols? Get Ss to give the proper ones, then check as a whole class.
Step 4 Creating
1. Ss go through Daniel’s questions and try to give proper short forms and symbols.
2. Check up in class.

1. Prepare for Main task after class.
2. Write down the useful short forms and symbols on your exercise books as written work.

Step 1 Presentation
1. Elicit from Ss information about their favorite clubs or any organizations or societies they wish to join either now or later. Help SS think about existing clubs or groups.
2. Introduce the idea that people need to apply forms before they are accepted to join a club. Elicit from Ss whether they know of any clubs where membership is restricted or where people have to complete application forms.
3 Introduce how to get membership.
Step 2 An application form
1. Ss complete the application form on their own and check up with the whole class.
2. Make sure they can give proper information.
3. Ask individual Ss to read out their information in front of class.
Step 3 Listening
1.Play the tape for ss three times to extact information for an applicaton form.
2. Get individuals to give their answers and check with the whole class.
3. Play the tape for Ss once to repeat one by one.
4. Ask some questions for pair Ss to work out.
Step 4 Reading
1. Ss go through Amy’s letter together for the captions and useful language points.

Step 1 Revision
1.Revise the useful patterns in the unit by asking Ss to give the English one by one.
2. Dictate the names of birds learnt in the unit, check with the whole class.
Step 2 Invitation
1. Set a time limit for Ss to complete the invitation letter on their own.
2. Ss read the part freely for the acting work.
2. Pair Ss role-play the conversation in front of the class.
Step 3 Consolidation
1. Give Ss some explanations about the words learnt in the unit, get individuals to speak out the correct words.
2. Ss complete Part B on their own and then compare answers in pairs.
Step 4 Extension activities
1. Get Ss to make their own crossword puzzles with other words they have learnt in the unit. Ask Ss to exchange their puzzles and allocate a few minutes for their patterns to solve them.
2. Ss consolidate the language points freely.

1. Go over Unit 5 after class for a test.
2. Try to prepare for Unit 5 wordlist after class.
