1 ．在由there 引起的句子中，主语通常放在谓语后面，谓语一般由动词be 构成，可用于各种时态：
where there is a will , there is a way .
有志者事竟成。（一般现在时）
there were no tvs back then .
那时候没有电视。（一般过去时）
they say there'll be a strong wind in the afternoon .
他们说今天下午有大风。（一般将来时）
there has been a gentleman asking for you .
有一位先生曾来找你。（现在完成时）
主语和谓语在数上一致（见上例）。如果有几个并列的主语，谓语和最近的那个主语一致：
there is only a table , four chairs and a bed in the room .

2 ．由there 引起的句子还有一些特殊结构：
l ）带有情态动词的句子：

2 ）带有不定式短语的句子：
there used to be a cinema here ．过去这里有一家电影院。
there is sure to be a restaurant somewhere ．哪儿准有餐馆。
there happened to be nobody in the room ．恰好房里没人。
3 ）以live , come , stand , lie 等作谓语的句子：
once there lived a fisherman in the village ．这村子从前住着一位渔夫。
then there came a knock at the door．接着听到敲门声。
there remained some problems to be solved ．还剩一些问题需要解决。［注」here 也可引起类似句子：
here is the menu ．这儿是菜单。
here are my address and phone number ．这儿是我的地址和电话号码。
