l. towards （美国有作toward):
l）向着，撇向：
A boy came running towars us.
一个男孩向我们跑来。
He was now walking towars the river.
这时他向河边走去。
She is taking courses toward a master's degree.
她正在修硕士学位的课程。
2）快到(某时):
Towards one o'clock they reached home．
快到一点时他们回到家里。
She came to see me towards the end of the week.
快到周末时她来看我。
It's getting on towards the end of term now.
现在己快到期末了。
3）对于：
The teacher was very lenient towards us．
老师对我们很松。
He has changed his attitude towards the work．

2. under:
l）在……下方(面):
They are cooling themselves under the trees．

2）(用于引申意义) 在……之下：
All their activities were put under unified command.
