1. throughout:
l）整个……时期：
Rain fell throughout the night．
雨下了一整夜。
They worked like that throughout the year．
整整一年他们都这样干。
He was a brave fighter throughout his life．
他英勇斗争了一辈子。
2）在全……：
Schools were opened throughout the country．
在全国兴办了学校。
The Fourth of July is celebrated throughout the United States．
整个美国都庆祝七月四日（国庆节）。
It is famous throughout the world．
它是全世界出名的。
2. till
l）直到：
The meeting lasted till midnight．
会一直开到午夜。
We'll have to wait till Monday．
我们得等到星期一再说。
Never put off till tomorrow what may be done today．
绝不要把今天能做的事拖到明天去做。(谚)
2）(用于否定句)直到……才：
We didn't know anything about it till yesterday．
我们到昨天才知道这件事。
She won't be free till nine o'clock．

They had not，till then，thought seriously of doing that．

3）用于某些成语：
They worked together from morning till night．
