1.would主要用构成过去将来时(可用于各个人称)：
i knew you would agree．
我知道你会同意的。
i thought they would be waiting for us．
我以为他们会等我们的。
he asked if i would join them．
他问我要不要参加他们的活动。
i told her that we would meet at the station．
我告诉她我们将在车站碰头。
would常可紧缩为“d”：
i thought he'd be sleeping．
我以为他会在睡觉的。
would not可紧缩为wouldn't：
i thought you wouldn't come．
我还以为你不会来的哩。
2.would用于条件句，表示假想的情况(可用于各个人称)：
i would do it if i could．
要是我有能力我是会这样做的。
if i were you，i wouldn't agree.
我要是你我不会同意。
if they had left earlier, they would have caught the train
他们要是动身早一点就赶上火车了。
i would have refused if he had asked me.
如果他问我我是会拒绝的。
3.would用来表示过去习惯性动作或倾向：
occasionally he would come to see us．
他偶尔会来看望我们。
every afternoon they would play together．
他们每天下午都在一起玩。
now and then a bird would call．
时不时有鸟叫。
the wound wouldn't heal．
伤口老不能愈合。
4.would用在日常生活中，用来提出请求，看法等，使口气显得更婉转：
i'd like a ticket to hangzhou．
我想买一张到杭州的票。
london wouldn't suit her．
伦敦对她不合适。（比won't婉转)
would you like to have dinner with me tonight?
你今晚愿意和我一道吃晚饭吗?
you'd like some tea，wouldn't you?
你想喝点茶是吧?
5.用于过去情况)表示“愿意”(相当于will的过去式)：
no matter what happened，he would not say a word．
不管发生什么情况他一句话也不肯说。
he would never enter that house again.
他再也不愿进那个家。
6.would也可表示猜测：
i thought you would have finished this by now.
我想你现在已经干完了。
the person you mentioned would be your father.
你提到的那人想必是你父亲。
