15.冠词的基本用法
1.不定冠词的基本意思是“一个”：
rome was not built in a day．
罗马不是一天建成的。(谚)
she'll be back in a day or two．
她一两天内就回来。
也可表示“某一个”：
a gentleman wants to see you．
有一位先牛想见你。
还可表示一类人或东西(这时不一定译为“一”字)：
he is an architect．
他是建筑师。
a tiger is a ferocious animal．
老虎是猛兽。
2.the和this, that同源，也表示“这个”，“那个”，但意思较弱，常不译成“这”，“那”，多表示一个(些)特定的人或东西：
can i speak to the manager?
我能和经理谈谈吗?
where are the girls?
姑娘们在哪里?
put it on the desk．
把它放在写字台上。
how do you like the film?
这部电影你觉得怎样?
还可表示一类人或东西：
the peasants did a lot for the war．
农民为这次战争做出了很大贡献。
the compass was invented in china．
指南针是中国发明的。
the lion is found in africa．
狮子出在非洲。
有些表示独一无二东西的名词，前面常常加the：
the sun is down．
太阳已经落山。
the moon moves round the earth．
月亮围着地球转。
the sky is clear and cloudless．
天空明净无云。
定冠词还可和少数形容词连用，表示一类人或东西：
soon she would be among the unemployed．
不久她将加入失业大军。
she has sympathy for the poor．
她同情穷人。
we mustn't attempt the impossible．
我们不能企图做不可能的事。
