five-time short track medalist
for the first five years of her short track career, from age 9 through age 13, yang yang (s) trained on her own because none of the local skating clubs thought she was good enough to be worth training. by the time she was 16 years old, yang was competing in the 1994 lillehammer olympics. she made it all the way to the final of the 1,000m and placed fifth. at the 1998 nagano games, yang earned a silver medal in each of the three short track events. in salt lake city in 2002, yang was disqualified in the 1,500m, but bounced back to win another silver medal in the relay - her fourth career silver - and then a bronze medal in the 1,000m.

杨阳很早就开始接触速度滑冰运动，但在九岁到十三岁这五年间，她只能自己训练，因为当地的滑冰俱乐部认为她水平不够高，没有愿意接收的。 1994年，16岁的杨阳在挪威利勒哈默尔第一次参加冬季奥运会的比赛，她在1000米速滑决赛中名列第五。1998年日本长野冬季奥运会上，她在三个短 道速滑项目中都夺得银牌。2002年盐湖城冬季奥运会上，杨阳没能进入1500米决赛，但是她和队友合作，在速滑接力比赛中为中国夺得一枚银牌，这届奥运 会上，她还在1000米速滑中夺得铜牌。
