bronte country
dramatic moorlands, ever present in the works of the bronte sisters. scenic variety, steam trains, ghost walks, museums and local festivals to explore.
the dramatic moorlands which played such a big part in the literature of the bronte sisters will inspire you. there's scenic variety, from industrial valleys and rugged villages to bustling towns such as keighley. visit haworth, with its bronte parsonage museum, ghost tours and speciality shops, ancient and modern. or how about the award-winning museum of rail travel at ingrow? take a walk over the moors to top witherns, reputed to be the inspiration for wuthering heights. and explore the old merchants' houses, such as east riddlesden hall or cliffe castle in keighley.
the area is also home to the brewery to the stars, timothy taylors in keighley – their landlord ale is said to be madonna's favourite. timothy taylors landlord can be found in many pubs around bronte country and is best drunk with a good yorkshire pub meal. you can reach bronte country by direct train from london, leeds or carlisle and then chug through it at a leisurely pace by steam train on the keighley and worth valley railway. (of course you can also get there by bus, coach or car!)
