当你老了
When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
当你老了，头发花白，睡意沉沉，
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
倦坐在炉旁，取下这本书来，
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look

Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,

But one man loved the Pilgrim Soul in you,

Murmur, a little sadly. how Love fled

本诗是叶芝写给莫德·冈女士的。诗人在讲述自己对莫德·冈的爱慕之情时，为了突出自己永恒的爱，诗人采用了对比的手法。他指出许多人爱恋的仅仅是莫德·冈的青春和美丽，而这些都是短暂即逝的，但诗人认为只有他一人独独爱她的灵魂。莫德·冈参加过爱尔兰独立运动，所以诗人在诗中说她有“朝圣者的灵魂”( the pilgrim soul )，而这也正是令诗人叶芝对其一往情深的原因所在。可令人叹息的是诗人并没能最终得到自己心目中女神的爱，所以诗的结尾透露着诗人的淡淡忧伤。
