the child of capricorn is the type of which we often hear people say that he or she “was an old-fashioned little thing.” that is one of the principal failings of capricorn children. they are mature for their ages, solemn, repressed and unresponsive. it is not natural or good for a child to be anything but joyous and carefree, and everything should be anything but joyous and carefree, and the parents to lighten the darkness of this temperament should do everything.
these children are rather slow in their mental responses, but they are exceedingly painstaking and persevering. as a result they often succeed, especially in their schoolwork, where more brilliant children fail. in fact, their average of studious accomplishment is very high. they have an innate respect for learning, and are surprisingly ambitious. scholarship is not lost upon them, and they put education to good use.
they have not naturally sweet dispositions, and parents will have to work very hard to eradicate tendencies toward deceit, schemes and spitefulness. it is disappointing to find these qualities in a child, when they are hateful enough in adults. parents, if they detect such tendencies, will have to treat them like a physical illness, and slowly and patiently develop trust and sweetness and sociability in their stead. these children are great readers and through the direction of the reading much salvation can be accomplished. if the realistic nature is apt to be too sordid, idealism, human kindness and spirituality can be developed by study of the noblest literature. it will take patience; but what are parents for but to study and guide their children.
