Man 1: It was all in the heat of the moment, actually. I blurted it out – 'would you marry me?'and afterwards, I remember thinking: what have I said? And although she didn't actually say 'yes', I knew that she was happy to marry me, yes.
What's your ideal proposal?
Woman 1: The ideal way, it just has to be simple and natural. It's not something really like fancy movies or on his knee or on the sea or under the moon. No, just simple.
Woman 2: Something really normal, I think. I don't like all the whole romantic stuff. I kind of think like, it's all been done. I'd rather like, if we're just having a chat and he just throws it into the conversation. I think I'd really like that!

Language tip
If you are proposing to someone and you ask them if they want to marry you, the response you want to hear is 'yes' or 'I do'. At that point, you can declare you are 'engaged to be married'.
Cultural tip
A traditional proposal involves the man getting down on one knee and asking the woman to marry him. He is then supposed to present her with an engagement ring which should cost about the equivalent of a month's salary! Let's hope he has a good job!
