Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an American science fiction action film released on June 19，2009 in the United Kingdom and June 24, 2009 in North America. It is the sequel to 2007，s Transformers and the second film in the live action Transformers series.

In Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a National Security Adviser confronts the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime—he’s a good robot, trying to help us foolish humans defend ourselves against an army of bad Decepticons一and says, angrily, “Who are you to pass judgment on us?” During the all-but-interminable course of this appalling event, I asked the same question of myself. Who am I to pass judgment on a vast industrial enterprise that cost, and will earn, countless kings’ ransoms? What words of wisdom can a movie critic offer in the face of an antimovie that will give its many fans the sustained pleasure of watching machines battling machines without the distraction of coherence or fugitive traces of humanity? Then a word did come to me: MaxLite. It’s the brand of earplugs I’ve found best for defense against deafening movies and the brand I used to protect my tympanic membranes against Revenge of the Fallen. If only I，d had protection for my brain.

Compared to this sequel, the first Transformers, which was released two years ago, ranks right up there with Kant's Critique of Pure Reason. The new one is impressive for what it is, glittering pieces of computer-generated machinery that gyrate, undulate, somersault and explode. But even for those who enjoy glittering pieces of machineiy~and I，m one of them, up to a point—Michael Bay’s 150-minute celebration of attention deficit disorder is like a July 4th fireworks display that doesn’t end until July 8th and makes you swear off Roman candles for life.

There is a plot, of sorts, and once again it centers on young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf, looking for but not always finding the spark of life) and his nubile girlfriend Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox, wide-eyed and lip-glossed). Having saved the human race in the previous installment, Sam goes off to college, but finds himself beset by bizarre visions and arcane symbols that prompt him to announce, during a lecture class, that Einstein was wrong. About what? The movie doesn’t say, though one might think it a matter of some consequence, because more important matters intrude. Sam unwittingly holds the key to the Decepticons’ onslaught, so this time he must save the whole planet.

In a movie not distinguished by dramatic focus, the camera’s concentration on Mikaela’s lips, breasts and behind is unwavering. Mr. Bay blew up lots of ships in Pearl Harbor, but that doesn’t seem to have left him sated; he blows up an aircraft carrier here, and quite impressively. It’s also good to see that a sequence in Egypt (first believed by intrepid humans to be Las Vegas) includes praise for Jordanian choppers that come to Sam’s rescue, though one wonders where the Egyptians were, and what they will think about a rampaging robot lopping the top off a Pyramid.

In addition to offering mindlessor mind-free~entertainment, the Transformers movies strike a nerve. These days, when technology drives so many human choices, it really does seem like us against the machines. But it’s also us against the machine-made movies that are transforming the realm of entertainment. Kids will embrace this one, along with the clever, intricate toys it spins off, just as they’ve been conditioned to do by the forces of global marketing. Still, that doesn’t change the nature of the mechanical beast. This Transformers is a pile of glittering junk.
