man与woman的同与异
1. 一般说来，用名词放在另一名词前作定语时，若被修饰的名词为复数形式，作定语的名词不能变为复数。如：
boy friend/boy friends 男朋友(不说：boys friends)
bus driver/bus drivers 公共汽车司机(不说：buses drivers)
但是 man 和 woman 是例外：当 man 和 woman 用在名词前表示性别时，若其后的名词为复数，man 和 woman 也要用复数。如：
man servant / men servanrs 男仆
woman doctor / women doctors 女医生
2. 一般说来，用单数可数名词表示泛指时要用冠词或改用复数形式。如：
马是有用动物。
正：A horse is a useful animal.
正：The horseis a useful animal.
正：Horses are useful animals.
误：Horse is a useful animal. (from www.yywords.com)
但是 man 和 woman 又是例外：当它们要表示泛指时，可以不加冠词(但在现代英语中也可在其前用不定冠词或用复数形式)。如：
God created man and woman for each other. 上帝为男人创造了女人，也为女人创造了男人。
Men and women have similar abilities and needs. 男人和女人的能力和需要是相似的。
A woman does not envy a man for his fighting courage, nora man a woman for her beauty. 女人不会羡慕男人的勇武，男人不会羡慕女人的漂亮。
【注】用 man表示“人类”时，一般不用冠词。如：
Man will conquer nature. 人定胜天。
Man and the monkey have many things in common. 人和猴子有很多共同之处。
有时也可用复数形式。如(from www.yywords.com)：
Man has [Men have] made history. 人创造了历史。
