Amy Winehouse Didn't Die Of A Drug Overdose, Her Parents Say

Nearly one month ago, we reported that the Amy Winehouse postmortem was inconclusive and that we would have to wait for the toxicology reports to learn the cause of the 27-year-old singer's death. And many sites, including ours, assumed that we would likely end up learning that her passing was due to a drug overdose or something similar given public struggles with narcotics. We still don't have the toxicology reports, but her family has issued a statement to the Associated Press that says she did not die from anything related to drugs. Alcohol was apparently present, but it's not yet clear if it caused her death.

You can read the entire statement below.

"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death," the statement read. "Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."

"The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest in October," the statement concluded.

Winehouse's cause of death is expected to be released in October.
