. . . All In A Day's "Work" For Prince Harry
Prince Harry's more than just a pretty face; he also has a way with money -- in a manner of speaking. On Monday, the 26-year-old royal managed to close a foreign exchange deal worth £15.5 billion ($24.5 billion), in London's Canary Wharf.
Appearing on behalf of his charity Sentebale -- which helps children in the African nation Lesotho -- the deal was part of a charity event organized by BGC, an inter-dealer broker, to honor employees of Cantor Fitzgerald who passed away on Sept. 11, 2011. Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 employees when the World Trade Center was attacked 10 years ago.
The deal brokered by Harry landed him a world record, beating a previous record set by his big bro, Prince William, in 2010, when he traded €17 billion ($23.7 billion) during a charity day organized by City firm ICAP. According to the UK's Metro, Harry completed his deal between Barclays London and a European counterpart on the telephone.
Robert Sully, a broker on the foreign exchange desk, described the royal's performance as "brilliant". Although Harry seemed to look a little bemused chatting away to a trader from Barclays on the other end of the phone, he still managed to use the complicated language of the trading floor. Sully commented, "We told Harry to say '28 year choice' which means you can buy or sell."
When Harry finally closed the $24.5 billion deal, he earned a $9,000 commission, all of which he plans to donate to Sentebale, because that's just the kind of guy that he is. Swoon.
We're sure Harry had fun playing the real life Monopoly game, but we hope this doesn't mean he's going all corporate and responsible on us. We still like to see him being the bad boy of the palace now and again. Although, spending $24.5 billion over the phone is pretty bad ass.
