It’s not easy to admit that you have a black thumb. Forget to water? Leave the plant in direct sunlight fot too long? It happens. Thankfully, there are plenty of hearty houseplants that can stand up to a caretaker who isn’t as skilled as he or she may like to admit. 1.Snake plant
According to Better Homes & Gardens, the Snake plant can handle a neglectful owner. While it grows well in low light, it does enjoy bright light, too. Tip: The surface soil should dry out between waterings.
2. Madagascar dragon tree
According to This Old House, the Madagascar dragon tree is great in low light and can tolerate drying out between waterings — perfect for someone who may travel a lot for work. Tip: The stalks of this tree can be braced or twisted to create your own style.
3. Cast-iron plant
Also known as Aspidistra elatior, this plant does well with little watering. Tip: You can also plant the cast-iron plant outside in little to full shade, according to Fine Gardening.
4. Christmas cactus
One of the prettiest houseplants, the Christmas cactus is a succulent plant that blooms in the winter. Tip: This plant, amazingly, needs watering just twice a month, says Woman's Day.
5. Moth orchid
While many may assume orchids are delicate plants, the moth orchid is relatively easy to care for, according to Southern Living. Place in filtered light and allow soil to dry out between waterings. Tip: Make sure the plant's plot drains well.
