Try this fun take on a traditional Victorian Valentine's Day card
1. Victorian Card
Materials:
Parchment or construction paper
Craft knife
Pinking shears
Colored paper and magazines for cutouts
Glue stick or rubber cement
Instructions:
Trace your hand on paper and draw a 3"-long triangular cuff at the wrist. Cut out with craft knife; trim cuff with pinking shears.
Cut a 1 1/2" x 2" heart from folded colored paper with pinking shears. Leave heart folded and fold it again diagonally; snip about 1" at center of diagonal fold with pinking shears.
Glue to hand cutout.
Pencil in 2 bands across back, one 1/2" wide just below palm and the other 5/8" wide, near lower edge. Cut a row of X's along each band, leaving a tiny space between the X's at top and bottom. Slip a strip of paper through each band, leaving diamonds showing between X’s on front. Cut a wedge in ends of strips.
2. Snipped Card
Create a stand-out greeting with this snipped Valentine's Day card
Materials:
Red rice paper
Sharp scissors
Metallic gold fine-point marker
Instructions:
Cut an 8"-diam circle of red rice paper and fold it precisely into 16ths (fold in half 4 times).
Draw a half-heart pattern on top for snipping, leaving some folds intact on each side.
Cut out design with scissors.
Open paper and write message in gold marker around the circle. Refold on original creases for neat results.
3. Hidden Heart Card
Surprise your loved ones with this Valentine's Day card
Materials:
Sturdy colored paper: 5" x 10" blue and 4"-square red
Tracing paper
Craft knife
Glue stick or white glue
Fine-point permanent marker
Instructions:
Fold blue paper in half to form square, then unfold.
Draw or trace a heart on blue paper, marking a "hinge" on the left with two dots.
Cut out heart with craft knife, leaving hinge.
Glue red paper behind opening. Glue blue card closed. Fold back blue heart; write message on red one; close.
4.Bright Hearts Card
Spell out your love with this foldable Valentine's Day card
Materials:
Parchment or construction paper
Colored paper and magazines for cutouts
Craft knife
Glue stick or rubber cement
Tape
Instructions:
Cut 5 hearts the same size from different colors of construction paper. Fold in half.
Cut letters and words from colored paper and magazines to spell out a 5-word message.
Glue 1 word inside each heart. Tape hearts in a row at back edges.
