It was a wild day behind the wheel for a 20-year-old Bedford Heights resident Saturday, one which included the birth of her son . . just after she caused a five-car accident on Interstate 77.
According to Broadview Heights Police, the woman was driving a red Mercury Grand Marquis when she became involved in an altercation with a 27-year-old man riding in the back seat. The woman made a sudden stop in the left lane of I-77 northbound. While two cars immediately behind were able to avoid a collision, a fourth car attempted to change lanes and moved into the path of another vehicle traveling at high speed.
The fifth car hit the left bumper of the fourth car, causing a chain reaction which ended up involving the three other vehicles, including the one driven by the pregnant woman. She jumped out of the driver’s seat and into the back, apparently in pursuit of her passenger, who left the car. The driver then began to walk down Interstate 77 toward Wallings Road.
Health Top Tips Nutrition Love Lifestyle Happiness Weight LossAnother passenger in the car told police that the driver and backseat passenger were fighting and there was hitting, spitting verbal threats. At one point, the male passenger threw a pair of the driver’s shoes out the window.
The driver sought treatment from paramedics because she said she was having contractions. She was transported to Marymount Hospital, where she underwent a C-section and gave birth to a boy.
The new mom was charged with reckless operation, disorderly conduct and assault. Her male passenger was charged with disorderly conduct, assault and littering from a vehicle.
