Ah, the dream of traveling and going to places while getting paid! Is it too good to be true? Apparently not! Nowadays there are jobs that will give you the privilege of traveling—and they pay well, too. There are those traditional travel-related careers such as being a pilot and flight attendant, and there are also some not-so-obvious careers. So update your resume and pack your bags; we are about to go on a journey and explore jobs that require travel. Read on.
1. Tour Guide
There are so many tour guide openings today. You can either freelance, using the web to attract clients, or you can apply to an already established tour company. A degree would give you an edge on this job but it is really unnecessary. All you need to is to be as bilingual as possible, learn something about the place and share a particular skill or hobby with your clients.
2. Travel Writer or Blogger
If you are a creative, poetic type and know how to string sentences together in a way that can capture people’s hearts, then you may be well suited as a travel writer/blogger. Believe me when I say that there are a lot of people who earn big bucks with their blogs and get free travel experiences. Is it even a job at all? You get to write about something you love, whilst earning passive income through the web that funds your travels. Sounds dreamy right? Just remember that the best things in life never come easily. You still need to build your audience and fan base first before someone can fund your travel experience, and with the tough competition in the web, you really need to work hard.
3. English Teacher
English teaching jobs are easy to find and very in demand, especially in Asian countries. You can freelance as a tutor or apply in short contracts at different schools to travel in different places. You should have a college degree or ESL certification to have English teaching gigs.
4. Navy
You will be your country’s pride while you travel, and contrary to popular belief, you’re very unlikely to see combat when you are in the Navy. You just get to travel and travel. All you need to do to be in the Navy is to volunteer, although the intense training and discipline requires hard work.
5. Archaeologist/Geologist
Becoming an archaeologist/geologist takes some time and money, but once you get your degree, you will be in demand. The lack of experts in both professions makes those who are in the field very precious. They support their travel studies via the hunt for fossil-fuel energy or proof of Greek mythology. Exploration geologists also get to travel to some of the most remote regions on Earth.
6. Flight Attendant
Most of the travelling time of flight attendants is spent inside airplanes, but they still get 12-24 hours for each trip to visit the countries and places they are assigned to. Plus, they also get free/discounted flights for their friends and families, not to mention the honor of meeting people—even celebrities—on each flight.
7. Cruise Ship Staff
Being a cruise ship staff member is probably one of the best jobs that requires travel. You get to travel to tropical destinations, and you don’t need to know anything about boats to be in one if the position does not require it. You also don’t necessarily need a degree: cruises need people to fill in almost any role imaginable, so some positions would be: waiter, bartender, cook, casino dealers, cleaning and maintenance personnel, performer, security guard, and many more.
8. Roadie
probably the best job out there! Who hasn’t dreamt of going out on the road travelling with your favorite star and getting paid to do so? The thrill of working with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry as lighting and sound engineers, stagehands, instrument technicians, backup dancers and backup singers while you travel is just surreal.
9. Traveling nurse
Developed as a response to United States’ shortage of nursing, travel nurses had been very in demand nowadays. They move around the world from hospital to hospital taking one temporary position to the next. If you are a nurse who’s looking for adventure and an opportunity to travel, then this is your best bet. All you need is your degree and certification and you are off to go.
10. Religious Missionary
Missionaries are people who travel from one country to another to share religious beliefs or help others. Some missionaries are volunteers, while others do mission work as a paid profession. Missionaries usually solicit donations to cover their expenses. Travelling while helping others is a very noble profession.
Now you know that you can actually travel while earning. Take that route because the rewards are endless and the demand is vast.
