According to a report released Tuesday by the National Center for Atmospheric Research, if greenhouse gas emissions aren’t drastically reduced in the near future, we could see severe droughts in the next 30 years.
“We are facing the possibility of widespread drought in the coming decades, but this has yet to be fully recognized by both the public and the climate change research community,” said scientist Aiguo Dai with the organization.
Billions of dollars are already spent in the US each year on drought, but that number is to drastically increase if gasses aren’t eliminated. Not only that, many lives will be lost not only in the US, but specifically in continents who don’t have the resources to combat it, such as Africa.
