Ten years ago I was nerdy, high school senior about to embark on a new chapter in my life. College was about to begin in a few months. I’ve learned a lot since then. If I could go back in time and talk to that young whipper-snapper, I would give him plenty of good advice that would help to better the life of the present me. Here are 20 things I wish I knew before college.
1. Communications is a useless major. You should major in ANYTHING else. TRUST ME (Except Philosophy. That’s even more useless than communications)
2. Don’t buy your textbooks until you know for sure the teacher is actually going to use them. If you do have to buy them, purchase them online. They will be SO MUCH cheaper.
3. Do your homework on professors when registering for classes. Consult with other students about what teachers to take. One really tough teacher can ruin your semester.
4. Don’t schedule classes on Friday if you can avoid it. You’ll miss out on a lot of fun Thursday nights.
5. DO NOT stay home for college. GO AWAY TO SCHOOL! (I didn’t learn this until grad school)

6. Go to a school with a warm climate. Walking to the bar with no jacket in 18 degree weather is not fun. (Plus from what I’ve seen on TV at college football games, the warmer the weather, the hotter the girls)
7. Don’t room with a high school friend. It may end badly for you (I didn’t actually do this but I’ve seen it happen a lot)
8. Don’t be one of those people who go home every weekend to have dinner with Mom and Dad. What’s the point of going away to school then?
9. All you can eat dining halls aren’t necessarily a good thing.
10. Go to grad school right after college. The longer you wait, the harder it will be.
11. Study abroad if you can. I missed out on some once-in-a-lifetime trips. My fiancé went all over Europe in college and I am very jealous of her for it.

12. If your high school girlfriend goes to a different college, break up with her. You’ll either get cheated on or miss out on tons of ass, or both.
13. Come to think of it, you probably shouldn’t have a girlfriend under any circumstance in college.
14. Don’t pass up on pussy. Don’t worry if they aren’t that hot. When you are settled down and married, you will regret not fucking more women while you had the chance.
15. The clitoris is located at the top of the labia. That’s important.

16. If someone offers of you shot of 151, turn it down—Should you accept the shot, make sure you know the location of the nearest toilet.
17. Always drink at least two glasses of water before going to bed after a night of drinking. You’ll feel a thousand times better when you wake up.
18. Definitely do a lot of internships. Getting a job after a college is difficult, so you need all the advantages you can get. There are a bunch of people with high GPAs, so you need to stand out.
19. You don’t need to blow your parents money or pile up student loans on a private school. There are plenty of good state schools out there.
20. On a serious note, ENJOY IT. College will probably be the best time of your life. Make the most of it; because once you graduate you will be slapped in the face by the hard hand of reality.
