POLICE in Changzhou, eastern Jiangsu Province busted four organ-trafficking rings and seized 16 suspects, the provincial public security bureau said today.
Police also saved 20 young men who were lured by the suspects into selling their kidneys and were waiting for their operations.
One ringleader surnamed Wei and his partners advertised on the Internet that those who are in dire need of money can sell their kidneys for big cash.
They provided accommodations for kidney sellers, arranged physical tests for them and contact buyers and transplant surgeons via the Internet, police said.
Before their arrest, they had made 12 deals, including sending a young man from Yangzhou City to Indonesia to have the surgery.
