We continue our series for students in other countries who wantto study in the United States.
Last week, we talked about the University of Southern California.Students at U.S.C. get to experience life in America'ssecond-largest city, Los Angeles, on the West Coast. This week, wediscuss another school with a large number of foreign students. Itis all the way across the country, in New York City.
New York University has forty-eight thousand students. More thanfour thousand of them are from outside the United States.
N.Y.U. offers many different programs of study. Also, studentsget to experience life in America's largest city. In fact, GailSzenes tells us that N.Y.U. is the coolest school in the UnitedStates. Her opinion may have something to do with her job: she isdirector of the International Student Office at N.Y.U.
The foreign students at New York University come from more thanone hundred forty countries. Most are from South Korea, India,Canada, China and Japan. Foreign students are studying in allfourteen schools within the university. These include arts andsciences, law, business and education. More than three thousand ofthe foreign students are in graduate and professional schools. Abouteight hundred are undergraduates.
The cost of attending New York University for one year is aboutfifty thousand dollars for undergraduates. That includes housing andhealth insurance. The cost for graduate students is different ineach of the schools.
Bachelor's degree students at N.Y.U. can borrow money fromfinancial institutions to help pay for their studies. Foreignstudents in graduate school at N.Y.U. can get teaching or researchjobs at the university. They can also get loans from financialinstitutions or the university. Gail Szenes say limits on universityloans have increased this year.
N.Y.U. also offers English language training at its AmericanLanguage Institute.
